Family Literacy Day
Family Literacy Day is celebrated across Canada annually on January 27 and encourages adults and children to read and learn together. The main goal of Family Literacy Day is to promote and encourage Canadian families to spend at least 15 minutes every day enjoying a learning activity together.
This year we hosted Family Literacy Night on Thursday, January 26th. The Evening began with all the children in attendance selecting a “Puppet Buddy” to accompany them for the duration of the event. The fun kicked off with an interactive story-time lead by Volunteer, Janice Halliday and her puppet buddy, Sunny. During story-time, all Puppeteers were encouraged to name their buddies. The children then took part in a word/object match game overseen by Volunteer, Melissa Miler. Snacks were then provided and the children were further treated to an interactive Puppet Show, put on by Volunteer Larissa Shabaga! The Evening was full of literacy and laughter, and a fun time was had by all – children and parents alike. The two attendance draws were won by Saffiya Rosnow and Bella Thomas. The LDB Library would like to extend a special thank you to Volunteers, Janice, Melissa, Larissa, and Rick and Cathie for helping to make this a fun and memorable evening.
